Mycoskie to Deliver Lecture in Charlotte
Blake Mycoskie
Blake Mycoskie, founder and chief shoe giver of TOMS Shoes, will present The Power of Giving: Conscious Capitalism and the Future of Business, at 7 p.m. on November 28 at the Knight Theater at the Levine Center for the Arts in Charlotte. Presented by the Learning Society of Queens University of Charlotte, the event will provide attendees a look at a forward-looking model for corporate responsibility and conscious consumerism that continues to assist disadvantaged people and providing proof that you don’t have to choose between making a living and making a difference.
Mycoskie, a visionary global leader, entrepreneur, adventurer and bestselling author, is the catalyst behind the now-ubiquitous One for One movement. He earned the Secretary of State’s Award of Corporate Excellence and was also named on Fortune’s 40 Under 40 list, recognizing him as one of the top young businessmen in the world.
To date, TOMS has given more than 45 million pairs of new shoes to children in need. Additionally, the company and its other gratis products and services have created jobs in developing countries, and have helped fund the restoration of people’s eyesight and the improvement of water quality in various communities.
The Learning Society influences intellectual dialogue in the Charlotte region. Since 1988, members’ generosity has made possible a semi-annual speakers series that draws experts on important contemporary issues to campus and invites questions and conversing with speakers.
