Major Underwater Cleanup Event off of Deerfield Beach in Florida
More than 700 scuba divers from across the country and worldwide are expected to try to break the world record for the largest underwater environmental cleanup in history on June 15 off of the International Fishing Pier at Deerfield Beach, Florida. Organized and supported by scuba diving enthusiasts Arilton Pavan of Dixie Divers, event host Robert “RJ” Harper, PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) Worldwide, Aqua Lung and other like-minded aquatic environmentalists, it’ll draw attention to the emergency our shared oceans are experiencing with plastic, garbage and the looming destruction of many ocean ecosystems from micro-plastics.
Harper says, “I’m excited that so many divers, scuba models and technical divers from every part of the world are coming to lend their support to Dixie Divers. Anyone interested in this dive can use my special promo code #RJHarper when registering. Scuba diving has long been a passion of mine and I’ve been a scuba model in a variety of scuba-related brand campaigns, so helping produce this Guinness World Record attempt is really just an environmental dream come true for me.”
Location: 200 N.E. 21st Ave., Deerfield Beach, FL. For more information or to register, visit the event at Tinyurl.com/DeerfieldBeachCleanup.
