Winner: Stephen and Lara Grotz, Charlotte
Project: Close in upstairs loft for a formal bedroom while maintaining the natural light.
Repurposed Materials: Antique windows from Facebook Marketplace, reused base of stair spindles as windowsill, parts of an antique bedframe for the window frame, secondhand interior paint and borrowed all tools and a truck from friends. The whole project cost less than $200.
Second Place: Jack and Diana Rouviere, Indian Trail
Project: Update a dark closet with dated fixtures to a serene and welcoming space.
Repurposed Materials: Flooring and shelving from Habitat Restore, the chair from Good Steward Ministries and the painting from Finders Keepers thrift store.
Third Place: Tyler Ravenell, Ravenell Home Services, Cornelius
Project: Cover a flawed hallway ceiling.
Repurposed Materials: Wood mosaic tiles from Habitat Restore. There wasn’t quite enough to cover the entire area, so I cut blocks and stained them to make up the difference.
Thank you to all participants and to Claudia Josephine Design and Sustain Charlotte for providing the prizes.
