Maintaining Perimenopause Balance
Sep 30, 2024 12:39PM ● By Dr. Deborah MatthewOctober is Menopause Awareness Month and a great time to cover unpredictable perimenopause; the years before menopause when hormone fluctuations create mood swings, unpredictable periods and sleepless nights. This can be a confusing time because it is often not obvious that hormonal changes are the culprit. Symptoms can start as young as 35—a time when women have not started to think about menopause.
Fortunately, there are some simple things anyone can do to help balance hormones for a smoother ride through the perimenopausal journey. Here are five tips to healthier hormones for women over 35:
· Eat hormone-friendly foods such as green leafy vegetables and protein
· Stay hydrated to flush out toxins (which can interfere with hormone function)
· Exercise to boost mood and energy levels
· Manage stress through mindfulness or breathing exercises
· Prioritize sleep, because many hormones are produced at night during sleep
Perimenopause is a journey filled with surprises and growth. With some simple lifestyle changes, women can navigate this chapter with grace and confidence, embracing every twist and turn.
