The American Cancer Society recognized volunteer drivers of their Road to Recovery program on October 2 in the Community Education Room of Novant Hospital, in Charlotte. Twelve members that attended the event and the approximate number of times each has driven an area cancer patient to and from treatments included Dana Gruber, 500 rides; Donald Turpin, 250 rides; Kay Brown and Keku Mistry, 100 rides each; and Sue Weaver, 50 rides.

Road to Recovery volunteers provide rides that help to save lives. The Society conducts criminal background and driving record checks on all drivers and provides free training.
