Unity of Charlotte to Host Burning Bowl Ceremony
Unity of Charlotte will conduct a Burning Bowl ceremony, the year-end ritual that allows participants to release negativity from their lives, beginning at noon on December 31, at their shared facilities with Wesley United Methodist Church, in Charlotte. Co-ministers Reverend Jim Ernstsen and Reverend Lisa Herklotz will lead the event for the first time in their new collaborative location.
After a guided meditation, participants will write down aspects of their lives they feel no longer serves them. These words will be burned using the flame of a candle, thereby releasing the negative items into the air as smoke.
Many participants find this intimate ceremony personally meaningful in that it helps them clear the slate from the previous year and start the new year easily and cleanly.
Unity is a positive, practical, progressive approach to Christianity based on the teachings of Jesus and the power of prayer. It honors the universal truths in all religions and respects each individual’s right to choose a spiritual path.
