Wipe Out Waste: Ask A Meck County Expert - It's Cart Sticker Time!
Ask A Meck County Expert
Mecklenburg Solid Waste experts receive hundreds of residential waste disposal and recycling questions weekly. To educate and empower Natural Awakenings readers, their experts provide updates and answer some of the most frequently asked questions in a bi-monthly column.
It’s Cart Sticker Time!
Mecklenburg County is working with local jurisdictional partners to clarify what goes in recycling carts and rolling out informational stickers. The stickers clearly show what should go inside the recycling cart and contain a QR code that connects to WipeOutWaste.com for more information. Our goal is to give residents clear and easy guidance on acceptable recyclables for curbside pickup and to reduce curbside recyclable contamination.
We need the help of Mecklenburg County residents to apply stickers to their carts. The Recycling Cart Stickers are available at the fee booths at each of the Full-Service Centers (17131 Lancaster Hwy, 8007 Pence Rd. and 140 Valleydale Rd. in Charlotte; 12300 N. Statesville Rd. in Huntersville) and are also available at the main office: 2145 Suttle Avenue in Charlotte. The stickers are easy to apply and will help remind county residents of the acceptable items to place in recycling carts.
Some of our WipeOutWaste Ambassadors have already been through some county neighborhoods to apply stickers. If you would like to assist in this program by adding stickers to your HOA neighborhood or street, please contact [email protected]. We could really use your help to make recycling more sustainable in Mecklenburg County.
Remember, curbside recycling is limited due to the sorting systems at the Material Recovery Facility (MRF). The six standard items are: Plastic Bottles and Jugs (with necks), Cardboard, Paper, Metal Cans, Juice Cartons, and Glass Jars and Bottles. Always remember to “Recycle Right”.
