Charlotte Area Whole Pet Veterinary Hospital
May 30, 2024 08:20PM ● By Martin MironAn integrative veterinary hospital for small and exotic animals, Whole Pet Veterinary Hospital employs 14 veterinarians and 75 support staff at four offices. The first location, in Davidson, was founded in 2013, and the other three opened between 2020 and 2023 to serve a larger area.
They are known for integrating holistic medicine and alternatives into daily practices, including careful vaccine and prevention strategies, whole food nutrition for pets, acupuncture, chiropractic, physical therapy, ozone, laser, herbal medicine and homeopathy. Founder Nicole Sheehan, DVM, CVA, CVCH, CVFT, MATP, says, “What people sometimes don’t know is we offer so much more—ultrasound, echocardiograms, advanced medicine and dentistry, chemotherapy and early cancer detection and prevention! What we are most proud of is that we care deeply for people and their pets, work hard to get to the root of the problem and absolutely love what we do.”
In addition to cats and dogs, they also see exotics. Each of the practices is routinely voted best in the area and favorites in the community. “In a world of mass, but sometimes misleading information, and also distrust of medicine and pharmaceuticals, it is nice to provide a service to our clients where we do the research for them and thoughtfully make recommendations on what is safe and also necessary for their pets,” advises Sheehan.
She explains, “The high level of medicine, care and attention we deliver have earned us business extending far beyond our communities, and we are proud to serve a great number of people throughout the entire state of North Carolina and even into surrounding states. We attribute our reputation to caring deeply and offering a wide variety of treatment options to match the goals of our clients while delivering outstanding success stories.”
Whole Pet Veterinary Hospital is dedicated to nurturing a positive office culture for all employees and patients and an open mind considering all medical strategies that would help our patients. Sheehan says, “We are a Fear-Free practice, meaning at all our locations we attempt to make your pet as comfortable as possible at each visit by eliminating any fear, anxiety or stress that your pet may have. We have always practiced with a Fear-Free approach but decided to have our staff become professionally certified.”
They also participate in the Cat Friendly Practice program created by the American Association of Feline Practitioners designed to elevate care for cats by reducing stress for the cat, caregiver and the entire veterinary team. “There are a set of unique cat-comforting protocols we use, such as Feliway, a product that emulates the natural pheromones released by a mother cat to calm her kittens, in rooms and carriers, a designated cat room versus waiting in the lobby, and our veterinarians go slow to make the cat feel comfortable.”
