Light Beyond the Shadow
Oct 31, 2024 09:40AM ● By Shannon McKenzieIn this month’s Inspiration article, Finding Grace in Hardship, Marlaina Donato writes, “Feeling gratitude for bounty that has not yet arrived, and for all that is on its way to us in its rightful season, provides us with an opportunity to see the light beyond the shadow.” I can easily identify areas of my life where I’m incredibly thankful for my good fortune. There are also areas that are more of a struggle—and where I feel guilty for giving them airtime, because doing so makes me seem unappreciative of all those blessings.
So, Donato’s idea of “having faith in an hour of plenty that is yet to come” is a nice way, in my opinion, to acknowledge the struggles, get past what is happening now, and visualize a more resolved future state. I also appreciate her reminder that the events of our life occur in their “rightful season.” Otherwise we may miss the lesson, the synchronicity, the blessing.
The people of Western North Carolina and everyone affected by Helene and the other recent storms are in my thoughts. It’s almost impossible to fathom the level of destruction only an hour away from us, and tough to know that many of our neighbors will be looking to find grace in hardship this Thanksgiving. In this issue, we offer suggestions from North Carolina Emergency Management (see Many Ways to Assist in North Carolina Hurricane Recovery Efforts) on how to best help with the relief effort. Please help if you can.
Wishing you comfort this month of Thanksgiving,
Shannon
